POCO Malaysia has sneakily pushed out a couple of new smartphones into the market without much noise and hype but we’ll see what they are all about.
The devices are the POCO M5 and M5s.
First up is the M5 portrayed in the iconic POCO Yellow color. It is packed with the new MediaTek Helio G99 chip that offers quite a performance yet is made with relatively low cost to keep the value of budget smartphones competitive as time goes.
The screen is big and nice with a 90Hz refresh rate and 240Hz sampling rate to keep things smooth and silky while responsive. The back camera setup, however, can only be described as borderline decent and not entirely bad, especially when u factor in its price.
On the other hand, the M5s shifts a little bit away from the “just gaming” perspective and drops just a little bit of SoC power in favor of a better AMOLED screen, additional camera sensors, and a faster charging protocol.
Therefore, the difference between them is kinda subtle yet not really that obvious so could be some people wondering which one is better for them, and based on the spec sheet, you can apply the 6:4 ruling here where if your 6 is about raw gaming performance and fully prioritizes that aspect, pick the M5. On the other hand, take the M5s if you want more eye candy and more day-to-day use with occasional gaming as your source of entertainment.
