There are lots of handheld gaming device, and what we have here is the AYANEO KONKR Pocket FIT. It’s not new since it’s about a year old at this point, but that’s okay since handhelds don’t have yearly refresh cycles like phones do. However, this KONKR Pocket Fit is essentially an Android smartphone made to a handheld form factor.
Since this device isn’t exactly new, let’s talk about what this device is and what we can do with it. It’s highly recommended that you watch the video since it’s difficult to show with images and words.
What is this?
This is the AYANEO KONKR Pocket FIT. It’s a handheld gaming device – pretty obvious because of how it looks, so I guess I became Captain Obvious here. The main highlight here is the chipset. It’s powered by the Snapdragon G3 Gen 3. It might be your first time hearing the name of this chipset – just know that it’s essentially the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, but tuned for high-powered handhelds like this.
So, let’s quickly go through what this device has to offer. It uses asymmetrical joystick design – which I prefer. We have two different joystick caps to select from, which is great since we can hotswap it whenever we want.
At the top, we have two buttons – one on each side of the shoulder buttons. They act like macros that we can program them in the settings menu.
Around the back, we have two more buttons. These buttons are not macros as they can only be remapped to buttons that we use in games.
There are also two toggles that lock the Hall Effect analog triggers into on/off switches. Useful for shooter games.
It has a 6-inch IPS LCD screen with a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels, and goes up to 144Hz refresh rate. There is no auto-brightness option or other color profiles, so this is what we have to work with.
The maximum brightness it can go up to is around 488 nits, and it goes down all the way to 14.75 nits minimum.
It can also cover up to nearly 100% of sRGB and 93.45% of DCI-P3 while maintaining a really low ΔE number across the board, which means this AYANEO KONKR Pocket FIT uses a high-quality IPS LCD screen, and games do look amazing on it.
And this device is actually very comfortable to hold. The speaker placement might look weird, but it makes sense as it’s just out of the way when I’m playing games, and my fingers can wrap around the bulge at the back comfortably. Even while my fingers are always on top of the back buttons, they never get pressed accidentally. Great!
Specs and performance
So, what can we do with this device? Obviously, gaming. I honestly have no idea what’s up with the Snapdragon G3 Gen 3 since I have no idea what the exact specs are. Qualcomm’s own website is totally rubbish in this case, but we can find out from the device itself.
There are many different power profiles available here, which we can tune and minmax depending on what kind of performance and fan speed we want. For me, I just want to push it to the maximum and see how it goes. That means the fan will have to go full speed all the time – and at 5k RPM, this fan is quite whiny and loud.
I mean, it works pretty okay. Genshin Impact at the highest graphical settings can maintain near 60fps but it’ll pull around 12-13W.
Zenless Zone Zero, at the highest graphical settings, it still holds up pretty well and fluctutates between 40-60fps but power consumption is kinda crazy, as it can go between 12W to 20W.
Wuthering Waves hovers at around 30fps at the nest fight while consuming around 20W sometimes.
Some simpler games like COD Mobile works great on this device as it can maintain 120fps in medium graphical preset – and it’s actually a great experience here since COD Mobile has official controller support. It makes the game feel so good on this device.
Also, the speakers on this handheld is… not exactly the best. Have a listen by watching the video at the top of this review.
What else can we do with it?
But hey, we can do much more than just playing games downloaded from the Google Play Store. Let’s take a look at GameNative for PC game emulation. Persona 3 Reload with Denuvo about 17W, lots of stuttering so we have to lower the settings even more.
For GTA V Legacy Edition – it works really well, getting around 50fps while driving around and the power consumption is around 15W as well. Not too bad, I’d say.
Emulation of older consoles also works, particularly anything around the PS2 or older. I’m just doing a quick demo here – and it works really well, honestly.
From my own perspective, I think that emulating PC games on Android devices are still rather finnicky at this point in time. Yes, you can take your time to dial in the settings and make things work – but it’s a whole can of worms on its own. But if that’s not your cup of tea – you can even use it to do Steam Link and stream games from your other PCs within the same network. What I’m showing here is Final Fantasy VII Rebirth – terrible game, by the way – and I didn’t adjust the aspect ratio, so it’s streaming from my 21:9 ultrawide gaming PC. Works well, and the latency is rather minimal to the point that I can enjoy these action games without a hitch.
I can also set up Moonlight and Sunshine for remote streaming – but that’s a topic for another day.
Battery life
As for the battery life… It’s kinda in line with some other handhelds we’ve tried in the past. It comes with an 8,400mAh battery, or 32.3Wh. Wh is a much better way to measure battery capacity – video here to know why.
With the Wh value in hand, we can kinda guesstimate how long it’ll last with all the games we’ve tested. I’ll just leave a list on the screen here for you to see.
Honestly speaking, the battery life is quite okay considering the tiny size of this handheld device.
Charging speed
The charging speed though – yeah, the AYANEO KONKR Pocket FIT does not come with a charger in the box. We only have the cable, so we’ll use our Ugreen USB-PD PPS charger.
We also turned on this option where it’ll turn on the fan while charging, so it the battery doesn’t throttle as much while charging.
And it actually doesn’t seem to throttle the charging speed at all. It reaches the 50% mark really quickly, then slows the charging process down. Actually, the battery temperature shoots up to 49.5°C – which is rather unhealthy for batteries in the long run.
It still takes around 105 minutes to charge from 15% to completion, but we do have the option to enable bypass charging so we don’t have to wear the battery down if we’re near a charger.
Should you buy the AYANEO KONKR Pocket FIT?
So then, should you buy the AYANEO KONKR Pocket FIT? I personally think it depends on what you want to do with a handheld device. It can run games from the Google Play Store really well, though the Snapdragon G3 Gen 3 – which is essentially the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 – is quite dated and can’t run games like Zenless Zone Zero consistently at 60fps at the max settings.
This device can also emulate Windows games via GameNative and GameHub… though I personally don’t prefer to play games that way because of input delay and it’s prone to crashes and glitches.
But this device is actually perfect for Steam Link or PS Remote Play. However, emulating games around PS2 or older is actually really good here.
For the price of around RM2.3k, it’s a niche product. The build quality, comfort, and size are all solid. We can also do a lot of things with this product since it’s so versatile, so it’s up to you what you want to do with it.
