It might seem like just a day away for most people, but some of us are eagerly awaiting for the new Windows 10 and to get our hands dirty with it – especially someone like me who has been waiting for Windows 10 for more than a month, and even installed the Technical Preview to try out myself.
Here’s how the story goes – a good friend of mine, Stanley (who did use the “Reserve Windows 10” tool to reserve his Windows 10) discovered that his internet activity has been running strange – there was an intense internet traffic on his computer but he didn’t do anything.
That domain is located somewhere in Australia, which we did suspect something fishy was going on.
Then he did some Batman-like detective work and found activities were going on in this folder.
That file isn’t small too – 2.7GB right there.
When the thing stopped, it didn’t have any other reaction. He gave his computer a restart to see what might happen – but nothing did happen.
He waited. Suddenly, his hard drive started kicking in full speed, with his hardworking processor shooting up to 80~90% load. Upon investigation of which folder is having all these activity, this was discovered.

Inside, there’s a file with this name.
Which is funny – because the contents looked nothing like the one with the exact folder name on the Technical Preview version.
After that, nothing seems to be happening again. Then we thought of something – why not change the time to past the Windows 10 launch day, and try if we can spoof the timer and install the full version of Windows 10 right now.
We did exactly that. Gave it another restart and Windows did do something again. Processor and hard disk load shot up.
What was it working on?
Installer files! Could it be?
Yes, it definitely is. The folder changed to have the structure of what a Windows installation USB drive should have.
Also for the sake of confirmation, Windows Update did do some updates and this showed up.
Although one thing did intrigue me – the total file size of this folder. The Technical Preview ISO file was at a whopping 3.7GB, while this setup however is only at 2.92GB.
This might be due to the fact that Windows Update only downloaded the required file to do the update to Windows 10, and not to have a full Windows reformat.
Till then, the wait is only till 28th July, and we’re trying to get it to install now.
Not to forget – all these are discovered by Stanley Phoong!
