AMD to unify its CPU sockets

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) has planned to phase out FM1-based CPU by Q3 2013, and AM3-based CPU by Q4 2013, to be completed within a year.

That means by 2014, the number of sockets supported by AMD will be reduced to 2, ie Socket FM2 for the APU and Socket AM3+ for the high-end FX CPU.

In the mean time AMD has also planned to cut the price of its CPU by US$10-20.
