Qualcomm finally officiates the Snapdragon X series of chipsets for laptops, even though it has been leaked multiple times in all of its glory. With the official announcement comes a list of laptops that are manufactured by brand partners like Acer, ASUS, HP, Dell, Lenovo, Samsung, and many more.
The Snapdragon X series will have two chipsets in the family – the Snapdragon X Elite and Snapdragon X Plus. With the transition to Arm architecture, everything changes – the codes needed to run the software is different, the battery life is different, and so is the performance that we’re going to get while feeding the device with the same amount of power. That is something that we’ll leave for later – as we have yet to receive any Snapdragon X-powered laptops for testing.
Of course, they need proper software to run the hardware properly on Windows alongside with the compatibility of existing software. Hence, Qualcomm partnered with Microsoft to create an entirely new kernel with x86-to-Arm translation layer.
These Snapdragon-powered laptops will also gain the new “Copilot+ PC” moniker, differentiating themselves from the existing x86 PCs. These laptops are available later on 18th June.
As for the laptops that will be available for purchase on launch day, here’s a brief summary. Every one of them is unique so choose whichever suits your fancy. Some of them comes with a touchscreen, some of them come with an OLED screen, while some are in a convertible form factor or a tablet. Some of them are also impossibly thin.
