I personally am a big fan of puzzle games, as I’ve played the Portal series, Q.U.B.E. and Quantum Conundrum too. Funny to see how all these games, including Antichamber, resembles Portal’s test chamber design, with a dominant white and minimal colour.

Unlike any puzzle games, the creator, Alexander Bruce, said that this game does not follow the conventional gameplay of any other puzzle games where you learn new concepts and apply them, but you need to actually unlearn and think illogically to solve the puzzles.

You do however, get to go various chambers in the game and almost every time, get stuck, then return to the map and go to another destination.

Throughout the entire journey in the game, as you can see in the screenshots above, you do get a gun with a total of 3 upgrades.

Another interesting point about this game – there are a lot of interactive black pictographic plates on the wall which when clicked, shows you how you just solved the puzzle.

Colours definitely do play a large role as they are the only differential element in the game and everything holds the same shape.

Playing along further, there are some other interesting non-Euclidean geometries in the game, which makes it look like an art gallery.

It’s a game with a soothing ambiance tune and with marvelous sound effects – almost hauntingly realistic. The graphic quality in the game is nothing out of the ordinary but it definite works a for a minimalistic game like this.

The brain teasing in this game is just intense and it definitely did drive me crazy when I first played it. In no cases that you can repeat what you just did – all the puzzles are different. A case that I suffered in every puzzle game is that some puzzles are beyond its hints and logic – but in this game it’s inlogic – opposite of logic. However, you don’t die in this game.

This game, just like how I solved puzzles in Portal, makes me rethink on how I solved the puzzle and also if I did it correctly, or if I exploited a certain part of the game. You’ll never know, since there are different routes to the same destination.

This is the game that definitely is a must play. A game that will make you involuntary yell WTF!? as you progress into an unknown puzzle. A game that make you grin and applause when you discover that there are certain doable things in the game.

The game is yes, illogical – but a very well-made, clean and with minimal glitches (I discovered a few) and definitely no hiccups. Very rarely that you find a game that educates you and fills you with fun.

Verdict?
