This is the Avalon. It’s a PC case. It looks like a testbench, and for some reason I think they’re actually trying to achieve a compact form factor without sacrificing the looks.
Thus begins the first ever modular PC case. It’s a result between the collaboration of In Win and ASUS, and they actually manage to create a very interesting concept here. The Avalon has a big piece of see-through panel at the top, and then two little “ears” at the side that can be popped out with the press of a single button on each side. The left side reveals the GPU, and the right side reveals the reservoir and pump for liquid cooling.
What’s interesting here is that all parts are connected to each other like any other computer would, but instead of using wires and connecting them directly to the motherboard, the case itself has little ports and cables built inside of it. For example – there is a PCIE riser board to reroute the GPU to the left side of the Avalon.
With that said, there are little to no visible cables on the case itself, even with the covers stripped off. The only cable I can see is the 6 pin power cable for the GPU, and nothing else.
Linus explains it best, so check out his video here.
Are you interested to see this product in the market? I certainly am. I hope ASUS doesn’t make it an ASUS-exclusive hardware where I have to buy an entire set of ASUS things just for the Avalon. That would be crappy, and makes me sad.
