Just when I thought Star Wars Episode VII had all the lasers that we could handle (from Stormtroopers’ blasters), here comes more lasers by ASUS! I said that specifically to mention that ASUS not only brought in not only one – not two – but a total of three blasters – I mean Lasers into the market! Yet the 5.5-inch version (which we also happen to have one!!) only costs RM799!
The Laser is meant to replace the aging ZenFone 4, 5, and 6, with the all new ZenFone 2 Laser with sizes of 5-inch, 5.5-inch, and 6-inch variants. That means a total elimination of 4-inch sizes entirely. Smart move by ASUS, I’d say.
I’m glad that ASUS actually stuck to having the exact same rear-facing camera between all of their ZenFone Laser variants up to ZenFone Selfie. Currently the lowest priced smartphones with laser autofocusing technology too. ZenFone 3 with laser autofocus next year? Seems imminent.
Both the 5-inch and 5.5-inch versions will run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 410 processor and have a resolution of 720×1280, but the 5-inch version only comes with a 2,400 mAh battery. Its elder 5.5-inch version comes with a 1920×1080 resolution screen and a 3,000 mAh battery instead.
Seems like ASUS hits more sweet spots as the new ZenFone 2 Laser spots a spanking new speaker design which is also featured on the Selfie (dang, I love that speaker’s volume and clarity) and improved the haptic feedback (vibration) and even improved the buttons on the original ZenFone 2!
