While some brands are toying with the idea of cloud gaming through Chromebooks could be a viable option, mainstream industry support with feasible results is actually the most heavily-weighted factor and that’s where ASUS comes in at CES 2023 with the reveal of the Chromebook Vibe CX34 Flip.
Although it has quite a good amount of processing power in the form of an Intel Core i7 CPU at max, it still lacks a discreet GPU which is why this is completely tailored towards cloud gaming since everything is just streamed online to you and just needs enough silicon brain to process frames.
But at least they aren’t skimping on the display though as it is a 144Hz 16:10 WUXGA display so you can definitely enjoy some smooth and silk “online gaming” provided that you have a smooth and strong enough Internet bandwidth for it which the built-in WiFi 6E will definitely help.
To go with the gamer essence, the keyboard has a 4-zone RGB backlit with anti-ghosting capability while the touchpad comes in an extended form factor at 5.55-inch, although I’m not sure why would anyone game with it when you can just use a mouse even if it is just cloud gaming. Also, the WASD keys are accented.
In terms of actual games, the laptop is preinstalled with GeForce Now and Luna so you can literally boot up the device out of the box and head straight into gaming if you wish to. Oh, since it is a Flip device that means the 360° Ergolift hinge can turn the device at any angle for some obnoxious gaming experience.
Other notable stuff includes Harman Kardon tuned sound profiles, garaged stylus, MIL-STD-810H military-grade durability, and ASUS Antimicrobial Guard.
