We’re here at Jakarta to witness the grand launching of the brand new ASUS ZenFone Max Pro (M2) – the successor of the wildly famous ZenFone Max Pro (M1) that we reviewed here. So what’s new with the ASUS ZenFone Max Pro (M2)? Let’s find out here.

Of course, we’ve already reviewed the ASUS ZenFone Max Pro (M2) here, so you can head over there to learn everything about the phone. Here, we’ll summarize and talk about the main highlights.

ASUS ZenFone Max Pro (M2) Jakarta Launch

During the grand launch, ASUS pointed out a few main differences from its predecessor. Let’s start from the full specs list of the ZenFone Max Pro (M2).

  • Notched 6.3-inch IPS LCD display with 2280×1080 pixels in resolution
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 AIE chipset
    • 4x Kryo 260 LP @ 1.8GHz + 4x Kryo 260 HP @ 1.95GHz
  • 4GB or 6GB LPDDR4X RAM
  • 64GB eMMC 5.1 internal storage
  • Dual rear-facing cameras
    • 12MP Sony IMX486 sensor with f/1.8 aperture 6-elements lens
    • 5MP depth sensor
  • Selfie camera
    • 13MP sensor with f/2.0 aperture; fixed focus
  • 5,000mAh battery
  • Pure Android 8.1.0 Oreo

Compared to its predecessor, the ASUS ZenFone Max Pro (M2) now has a higher powered chipset. From our reviews with other phones with Snapdragon 660 chipset, we know that it is indeed with higher power in both CPU and GPU – however, the ZenFone Max Pro (M2) has lower clock speed for the Kryo 260 HP quad-cores. But then again, the GPU remains as powerful as ever.

Then comes the brand new display. The display now resembles the ZenFone 5 and ZenFone 5z with the notch at the top, and with a more vibrant, richer screen. The screen just looks better overall – no doubt.

Another upgrade was the camera – not only the hardware, but software too. With an upgraded sensor lens, it can already take better pictures compared to its predecessor – but the software was also improved for the camera app itself.

It can now take pictures in manual mode with manual ISO and shutter speed settings as well – which creates flexibility in photography. Also, the ZenFone Max Pro (M2) has improved video capabilities whereby it can now record 4K at 30FPS or at 1080p at 30FPS with 3-axis EIS enabled. Check out our video sample here.
