ASUS is developing a new laptop device designed to provide an optimized AI experience. Project “Precog” refers to an AI PC that will feature a convertible dual-screen form factor for flexibility, expandability, and increased productivity. This new PC will include a full set of AI features, including AI Touch for automatically adjusting the C-part interface by recognizing the input device being used, and AI Charging that will extend battery life and smartly charge the device to 100%, based on your schedule. That AI charging – we’ve actually seen it in the ZenFone 5, actually.
Project Precog will provide a smooth and intuitive experience for industry-leading AI technologies. With support for the Windows Cortana and Amazon Alexa virtual assistants, the dual-screen design will allow users to keep main tasks in full view while virtual assistants process other lower-priority tasks on the second screen. Yes – dual screen. Anyone remembers the original Taichi from like 5 years or so ago? That was back in the days before convertible laptops were even possible. Now, ASUS is bringing back dual-screen laptops again, but with the powers of AI.
The extra screen space is also perfect for apps processing large amounts of data and information, such as the AI-powered Microsoft Office 365. It supports the Intel Movidius Vision Processor Unit (VPU), and ASUS will encourage developers worldwide to create engaging AI-powered experiences.
“Precog” is a shortened version of “precognitive”, and it refers to individuals who possess the psychic ability to see events in the future. We use this term because we believe this device provides a glimpse of where some AI-based technology is heading in the future.
Artificial intelligence and machine learning are already changing the industry by providing new frameworks that will evolve user experiences. ASUS is striving to be the first to show just how incredible these new user experiences will be. That’s why we have created the first convertible dual-screen laptop that’s fully enriched with AI features. Project Precog represents only the beginning for ASUS innovation in the AI PC segment. You can expect the continued evolution of ASUS AI PCs, with even better features on offer in the near future.
As of now, the Project Precog laptop is still in development – but we got a glimpse of its aesthetics – and it’s just beautiful. We’ll have to wait for future updates for more information about the Precog. We speculate it’ll be available somewhere in the year 2019. Let’s hope that’s true.
