Being a die hard fan of custom ROMs myself, I’ve been exploring on the possibilities of unlocking the bootloader on the ZenFone 2 for many months already. There already is a method available for ZenFone 2 users, albeit a little unofficial to begin with (find it at XDA Forums).
After much feedback and eventually begging (even from us) to them to unlock the bootloader, they delivered! The caveat being that you have to update your software to v2.20.40.59 or latest version 2.
The usual terms and conditions apply, as this will void your warranty and done at your own risk!
Good luck, have fun, and enjoy!
