Previously we had a great time with the BenQ MOBIUZ EX3210U, it is an excellent 32-inch 4K 144Hz gaming monitor that comes with a slew of amazing features. Click here to learn more if you missed out on our thoughts on that particular monitor. Today, what we have in the studio is another model from the MOBIUZ series – meet the BenQ MOBIUZ EX2710U, a 27-inch variant that takes up less space on your desk and is more wallet-friendly while enjoying all the features that come along with its 32-inch bigger brother.
Unboxing and Setup
The monitor ships in a sturdy cardboard box inclusive of all the following accessories:
- power adapter
- HDMI 2.1 cable (1.8m)
- DisplayPort cable (1.8m)
- USB 3 upstream cable
The monitor can be set up by first screwing the base to the neck, then attaches to the back of the monitor.
To be frank, I’m not a fan of this kind of triangular base as it is not that practical. Then again, it is up to your personal preference and some might find it attractive.
It has tilt, height and swivel adjustments except that it cannot support vertical mode. If you want, there’s always an option to mount the monitor on a monitor arm. Of course, that is if you have that requirement, otherwise, general users who don’t need vertical mode will find the default monitor stand to be sufficient.
Connectivity
In terms of the connectivities we’ve got:
- 2x HDMI 2.1
- 1x DisplayPort 1.4
- 1x 3.5mm audio passthrough
- 1x USB-B upstream port
- 4x USB-A downstream ports
The cable routing hole is reasonably sized and once you are done plugging in the cables, you can cover the monitor back with the cover. I just don’t know why BenQ positioned all four USB-A ports at the back instead of separating two at the back and two at the side for easy access.
Outlook Design and Buttons
The MOBIUZ EX2710U has the same design scheme as its bigger brother. The overall clean design makes it a monitor that fits into all sorts of table arrangements and interior designs.
The monitor’s back panel is white and comes with four LED strips. You can configure the lighting mode and colour in the monitor OSD menu. The OSD control buttons and joystick are located under the monitor frame, just beside the transparent power button.
The package also includes a remote control for you to sit back and relax while adjusting the monitor settings such as speaker volume, HDR mode, input selection etc. In other words, It is the easiest way to navigate around the OSD menu compared to the joystick.
Display
Here’s the key highlight of the MOBIUZ EX2710U, the display panel. This is a 4K 144Hz IPS panel with a 98% DCI-P3 colour gamut. In other words, this panel is not just suitable for triple-A game titles, content creators can also benefit from its colour accuracy for video and photo editing.
It also has VESA DisplayHDR 600 certification, especially suitable for the next-gen console gaming experience. Unique to the BenQ monitors are the HDRi modes. It is a built-in HDR preset for those who like to tinker around with the look and feel of the display.
Game HDRi as the name suggest is suitable for game titles while the Cinema HDRi is best for movies. Meanwhile, the standard Display HDR is best for all purposes.
BenQ has prepared a dedicated button at the bottom right bezel to quickly toggle between the three HDR profiles to match with your visual preference.
Besides, the monitor at 4K resolution also supports up to 144Hz refresh rate for that silky smooth gaming experience. Perfect for triple-A titles on PC. For PS5 and XBOX Series X/S, the monitor will automatically adjust to support 4K 120Hz. If you own both PC and console, don’t worry, as the monitor comes included with two HDMI 2.1 ports and one DisplayPort 1.4. By connecting all your gaming devices to the monitor, you can easily switch between the PC and the console with a button press.
The MOBIUZ EX2710U is also capable of saving different quick menus and display settings for each individual display input. For example, you can configure the HDMI 1 for PS5 with a Racing display profile and Standard mode for the PC. Now, whenever you change the display source, the monitor will load the preset automatically to fit your viewing preference.
While this may not be the key feature of the MOBIUZ series, BenQ also included its proprietary Eye-Care technology with the MOBIUZ EX2710U. The sensors located under the front bottom bezel will detect your surrounding lighting and automatically adjust the display brightness to improve your viewing comfort. Personally, I have a habit of using the computer in a consistent lit environment, so I would calibrate the display to that standard and leave it that way.
Entertainment (audio)
While I usually don’t touch on a monitor’s speaker because they’re at best usable as a backup speaker, the MOBIUZ EX2710U is different. In fact, I can say these built-in 2.1 stereo sound system powered by treVolo is pretty unique. Thanks to the dedicated subwoofer mounted at the back of the monitor, the sound quality is miles better than other monitors’ standard speakers. The monitor also included a couple of audio presets for different purposes, such as racing games, movies, music and more.
This is great for those who are looking to have a clean desktop setup without having to deal with all the speaker cables. Besides, the speaker is decent for everyday use when the user is not using a headphone. Besides, the monitor also has a built-in microphone for online conference calls.
Conclusion
Having experienced both BenQ MOBIUZ 32-inch and 27-inch 4K gaming monitors, I’m genuinely impressed with all the features BenQ packed into the lineup. They also have different resolutions, refresh rates, screen sizes and a choice between the flat or curved panel. The BenQ EX2710U is priced at RM3,999.
