It really feels like everything is getting smarter and smaller these days, and with edge AI devices needing serious storage power in tiny spaces, Biwin has clearly been building toward this moment with the CL100 Mini SSD.
They have been working on coin-sized NAND storage with proper SSD packaging for years, and this latest model shows just how far that engineering has come. As for the new product, the CL100 runs on PCIe 4.0 x2 with NVMe 1.4 and still manages to push up to 3700 MB/s read and 3400 MB/s write speeds, all while measuring just 15.0 mm x 17.0 mm x 1.4 mm and supporting capacities up to 2TB.
What makes it even more impressive is how the CL100 is built using advanced LGA packaging that combines the controller and flash into an ultra-compact footprint, which is why it is already being positioned for ultra-thin laptops, mini PCs, handheld gaming devices, and other similarly tight form factors.
At the same time, it is not just about speed and size, since Biwin also made sure it is IP68 dust and water-resistant and tough enough to survive drops of up to 3 meters, which makes it feel a lot more practical for real-world use.
To complement it, Biwin also introduced the RD510 Mini SSD Reader, which is clearly designed with the CL100 in mind, delivering up to 3300 MB/s read and 3000 MB/s write speeds over USB 4.0 using the included USB C-to-C cable.
The whole experience is plug-and-play with cross-platform support, so you are not stuck hunting for drivers or dealing with annoying setup steps, and that simplicity really matches the whole idea of ultra-portable storage.
Looking at this release, it feels like Biwin is not just launching another product but is seriously trying to push high-speed miniature storage forward, and if edge computing is really heading where everyone thinks it is, solutions like the CL100 might end up being a lot more important than they look at first glance.
