Xiaomi has finally revealed the much anticipated Black Shark 5 series smartphones, at least for China at the time being.
If we are to expect all 5 models to make it out of the continent, that chance would be way too slim. So we are going to cover the basics – the Black Shark 5, Black Shark 5 RS, and the Black Shark 5 Pro.
For starters, the Black Shark 5 is more or less like a hardware refresh of the Black Shark 4 as the aesthetics have not changed a lot thus maintaining most of its iconic design. Even the SoC given to it is yesteryear’s offerings so it is clear that Xiaomi is placing once the best ones at the very basic tier this time.
On the other hand, the Black Shark 5 RS is made to be like what the Black Shark 5 should be. Despite running the super hot Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 in the literal sense, at least Xiaomi has the necessary accessories to tame it down without too much problem.
As for the Black Shark 5 Pro, this is the fully packed guy running the best Qualcomm chip, largest memory configuration, and the highest resolution for the main rear camera.
We got one more thing to highlight and it is one of the earliest commercial ventures of putting an SSD into a smartphone. You heard that right, an NVMe SSD running in tandem with the UFS 3.1 storage that drastically improves random I/O performance via the DM Cache technology. The Black Shark 5 RS and Pro will be the devices having this wonder treatment but not the base Black Shark 5.
Here’s what we gathered for the spec sheet of all 3 devices and their starting price. Once they are officially entering Malaysia, we’ll be back with another post.
