Samsung announced the new Galaxy A42 5G and as the name suggests, they’re bringing 5G to the masses with this mid-range smartphone. While we here in Malaysia still do not have 5G, it seems like we can’t avoid the inevitable arrival of 5G phones. When Malaysians finally get 5G, we’ll get to experience it on the Galaxy A42.
Other than 5G, there are a few more things that I like about the new Galaxy A42.
Let’s start off with the specs. The Galaxy A42 5G is packed with the Snapdragon 750G chipset alongside 8GB of RAM is going to run all the games smoothly. Better yet, that massive 5,000mAh battery packed inside the Galaxy A42 5G is going to make sure your phone lasts throughout the whole day or provide you an entire afternoon’s worth of gaming – and more.
While on the subject of gaming, Samsung made some adjustments to how One UI handles games with the enhanced version of Game Booster. It now offers an optimized gaming experience according to which game you’re playing – which is actually AI-powered – and also the introduction of something called Frame Booster. It is created to compensate for dropped frames by adding virtual images in-between frames. This is actually very useful to prevent games from feeling stutter because of mismatched frame rates.
By the way, if you want to know how to enable the frame rate monitor for the Galaxy A42 5G, check out this video.
And since games taking up a lot of space nowadays, the Galaxy A42 5G comes with 128GB of internal storage. If that’s not enough, you can add in another 1TB microSD card too.
Besides gaming, the Galaxy A42 5G has quadruple cameras at the back too – and of course, the most notable highlight is the 48 MP f/1.8 main camera. Sure, it can take great pictures like all of the other phones but what makes the Galaxy A42 5G special is its ability to record videos at 4K resolution too.
Moreover, if you want to take some nice ultra-wide angle photos, fret not – the Galaxy A42 5G is equipped with an 8MP sensor for its ultra-wide angle camera with an f/2.2 lens with an extremely wide field of view of 123° which is the same field of view as the human eye!
And to make sure you can see your enemies in games and the colors of photos or videos that you’ve taken, the Galaxy A42 5G also comes with a 6.6-inch HD+ Super AMOLED screen. It also uses Samsung’s signature Infinity-U notch to maximum the screen-to-body ratio.
Most importantly, all of these hardware are packed in a sleek and beautiful body. The Galaxy A42 5G has this unique banded color gradient with dots layered on top. Samsung is calling this the Prism Dot Black and also Prism Dot Gray design that gives it a modern feeling of depth and space. In my opinion, it reminds me of the Nexus 4’s beautiful back from many years ago.
And by the way – the Galaxy A42 5G also supports Samsung Pay – which means we can make contactless payments via our phone if the payment terminal supports NFC. Best of all, Samsung Pay was also updated to support Boost e-wallet earlier this year so we can get rewarded twice with just one transaction. Once with Samsung Rewards, another with Boost coins.
The new Samsung Galaxy A42 5G is now available for the price of RM1,599 at all participating Samsung Experience Stores, authorized dealers, or e-stores.
