This brilliant student, Eesha Khare, 18 years old, from Saratoga, California, found out a way to charge a battery to its maximum capacity within 30 seconds only, yet it lasts for 10,000 charging cycles, compared to the conventional lithium ion batteries that can only hold about 1,000 cycles. She won the Intel Foundation Young Scientist Award of $50,000 at the Intel Science and Engineering Fair with her innovation.

Quoting from Khare herself, what she did was merely developing a tiny supercapacitor that fits in portable electronic devices and charge it fully in 30 seconds. The battery isn’t rigid too, it’s easily bendable, foldable and rolled up, yet its electrochemical properties are retained.

Basically this technology can be applied to any electronic devices that require to run on a battery, like tablets, phones, laptops and even wireless keyboard and mouse. How long will it take for this technology to be seen around in the consumer market? That will be quite hard to tell since supercapacitors aren’t exactly used much in the consumer market, so the market price will be high, making it harder to implement to the mass market.
