Google is known to have the coolest places to work in around the world and now Malaysia is a port of it. Google Malaysia’s new office is now open in Kuala Lumpur on the Quill 7 building, level 20 which occupies 10,000 square feet of work environment.
Thanks to MEX highway, opening an office in Kuala Lumpur was a strategic choice since it is only 30 minutes to the Kuala Lumpur International Airport(KLIA). Kuala Lumpur is obviously the central point of Malaysia where international visitors will only need to spend so little time walking to get to the office from KLIA. Combined with Kuala Lumpur’s public transportation, residence and other leisure are within reasonable distance.
Google Malaysia office will mainly serve as a marketing and sales center which focuses on ads and social media. However, some of our local Google staffs have already gained access to Google’s latest hardware such as the Google Glass which is only deployed in the United States.
“And before we can ever release it here, it would need to be approved by Sirim,” said Google Malaysia, Pakistan & Bangladesh head of communications & public affairs, Zeffri Yusof.
As most of us know, Google is famous for not only their search engine but also for their playground like work environment. Their meeting rooms is designed to simulate an environment inside a cave to reflect Malaysia’s various interesting caves. Their cafeteria, “Gerai Gugel” was decorated with colorful swing chairs and tables. In their recreation room, there is a full sized arcade machine which you can choose from hundreds of 8 bit arcade games. Beside the arcade machine, a newer gaming machine, an Xbox 360, is provided for the younger geeks who prefer high graphics gaming which is fully equipped with Xbox Live and Kinect.
Various other projects was launch recently and the most exciting one is Google Street View for Malayisa. Today, there are various instrument such as the Street View Car and their mobile backpack camera is roaming across Malaysia to capture the views of tons of exciting places to visit in Malaysia.
Hopefully one day the Google office in Malaysia will be more aggressive in terms of research and development of new technologies and being involved in software development along with mind blowing data crunching equipment(data center perhaps?). What I am curious is that will Google and Proton join forces to further develop the world’s first commercial self driving car?
