Having quite a bad reputation with the builds of CyanogenMod builds for many Exynos-based Samsung devices, Team Hacksung announced that CyanogenMod will never be released for the upcoming Galaxy S IV.![]()
The reason why is as stated officially by Team Hacksung:
Nobody at Team Hacksung plans to buy it, neither develop for it. There are two variants which will be a pain to maintain, [and] the bugs we have on the S3 will probably be there on S4, too (camera), and we all know Samsung ability to release sources while staying in line with mainline. Yes Qualcomm releases sources, but Exynos sources we had were far from [working on] actual Galaxy products. I’m pretty sure the same will happen for this one.
It might still be a big yes for the Snapdragon variant, but as stated above, fragmentation will definitely have a lot of unnecessary questions to answer. Being a fan of custom ROMs myself, this is a rather sad news.
Bear in mind, this is Team Hacksung, not the official CyanogenMod team. The official CM team says they they “will never pre-announce support or the lack of it” and will only “announce support until nightly build was available” However, there are many other developers who said that there will be no development for the Galaxy S IV too.
The first case of a high-end phone with no developer support? It definitely seems so.
