Have you been consuming durians in the last couple of months? If you did, you might experience the overall quality is not as good as they were used to be. In my case, the usual durian stalls in my area straight up disappeared.
It turns out, high rainfalls and farms lacking manpower support due to the imposed Movement Control Order are the main reason resulting in lower-than-normal yield at below 300,000 metric tonnes this durian season, according to Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA).
However, most durian sellers foresee demand to remain strong domestically and internationally especially from the Singaporean and Chinese markets with China’s economy beginning to recover. FAMA also encouraged sellers to embrace e-commerce to boost their sales during this challenging period. This is where Shopee comes into the big picture.
Durian products straight to your doorstep
They have found that local durian sellers are pretty resilient about the disruptions and are very progressive in their approach to e-commerce while products such as D24, Musang King, XO, Hor Lor, Udang Merah and more have started to appear on the platform. Many have also gotten creative with their own campaigns like Duduk Rumah, Makan Durian in order to stay relevant.
To help fellow durian sellers sustain their incomes and give Malaysians their durian fix, during the upcoming Shopee 6.6 Super Sale event, offerings such as Shan Cheng Durian and Mountain Cat, along with 500 other durian and fruit sellers will be featured starting now until 6 June.
The Shocking Sales section during the main day where items are only priced at RM0.66, will include these delicious fruits too, as well as an added 10% in-store discount for selected sellers throughout the campaign, free shipping with a minimum of RM16 spent, and daily RM6 vouchers.
