Japan-based Seiko Epson Corporation has received the Platinum rating for sustainability from France-based EcoVadis for the 2nd time that is also the first consecutive streak for the printing solution giant.

EcoVadis Platinum Epson

Rated based on aspects of the environment, sustainable procurement, labor, human rights, and ethics, the Platinum rating essentially placed Epson at the top 1% of the companies in the industry that represents good industry practices towards the aforementioned factors. With more than 75,000 groups and organizations participating in the program by EcoVadis in order to get a rating to boost branding image, thousands of external sources such as NGOs, labor unions, international organizations, local governments, and auditing organizations are referenced in order to provide a final assessment and a tiered rating.

How did Epson achieve the crowning Platinum rank? It boils down to 4 materialities including “achieving sustainability in a circular economy” and “advancing the frontiers of industry” by committing to creating products and services that contribute to its goal of achieving sustainability and enriching communities on top of being Japan’s first manufacturer to switch to 100% renewable electricity source. Additionally, the ‘Be Cool’ campaign that involves Malaysia as well, helps the entire business that uses printers to adapt the Epson Heat-Free technology to eliminate heat generation that is deemed unnecessary.

The current leader of Epson is also honored and happy to receive this award as a sign of leading the company in the correct direction.

“We’ve put solving issues in society, and especially achieving sustainability, at the heart of Epson’s corporate vision and business strategy. It’s a tremendous honor to receive this Platinum rating for the second successive year. In addition to setting ambitious goals to achieve our Environmental Vision of becoming carbon negative and underground resource free by 2050, we are continuing to implement measures to ensure good governance and social responsibility across our supply chain, including acquiring RBA[2] certification at some of our key manufacturing plants. Most of all, however, I believe this Platinum rating communicates that to our customers Epson is a company that can be trusted, is determined to achieve sustainability and will fulfill its responsibility as a good corporate citizen.”
