What’s more shocking than Microsoft laying off several thousands of employees and having some sort of revamp in the company itself? The death of Windows 8.

Windows 8 was relatively new to us, with its release date to the general public clocked in at only about 21 months ago. Remember Metro UI and the start screen that Microsoft shoves it to your face in Windows 8 when you boot up your computer? That was then given an alternative to either show the desktop instead of that Metro UI start screen.

Windows 8’s second major update was rumoured to remove the Metro UI start menu with a conventional one that you find on Windows 7, but still having the same design cues of square boxes as icons. After being rumoured for many months, the news broke that Microsoft isn’t going to release the update, but will have a series of small updates as support to Windows 8 only.

Winds of Windows 9 was caught by the internet and everyone started to see what’s up. Turns out, Microsoft is planning to kill the disgusting and mostly useless Charms bar, bringing back the Start menu a la Windows 7, and also to add multiple desktops for multitasking (finally!).

Maybe Microsoft finally know why people still prefer a Mac over Windows PC for everyday use.

The funny prophecy of Microsoft Windows is that for every odd-numbered of Windows they create, it’ll somehow be great but their even-numbered Windows version, it’s like Microsoft opened a portal to hell to make you suffer.

Let’s take a look at some of the famous versions of Windows, XP, Vista, 7, and 8. Windows XP is allegedly Windows 5, and it was the longest supported OS in history, which was released in year 2001. Windows Vista, which was Windows 6, had the biggest issue and had problems with basically everything. Windows 7 then came and became the hero of everyone. Soon, Windows 8 was released with an entirely new UI and many people had a single prophecy – its failure in the new UI.

They were right, Windows 8’s UI was rather not intuitive for non-touch screen users. Windows 8.1 was an update to address some of those complaints, but didn’t work well. Now, it’s up to another odd-numbered version of Windows again – Windows 9.

Maybe Windows 9 will be Microsoft’s knight in shining armor for an actually feasible tablet-PC OS.
Maybe it’ll still flunk in the tablet markets like Windows 8, or piss off PC users with its Metro UI again.

Stay tuned for more news on upcoming version of Windows.
