Let’s begin with this – the newly-announced WhatsApp desktop client is a piece of shit. It’s just a web wrapper, and that means it’s a simple “browser” that you install, and it only opens up WhatsApp Web. Franz on the other hand, brings all of your chat messenger services in one single place.
It’s really easy to setup too – download Franz right here, install, and BOOM you’re done! Start adding the services that you use – in my case, Facebook’s Messenger, WhatsApp, and Telegram. I added Steam Chat just for the lolz.
Franz now supports a total of 14 different services – and according to Franz, they’re going to add more services in as times goes by. Oh let’s not forget – Franz still in beta, and they’re whooping everyone’s ass with this amazing app. If there are any problems that you encountered, notify them over at their help desk, and they actually reply very promptly and guided me on how you can get the self-generated error log and send it back to them, so they can solve your issue.
Franz even support shortcut keys as you’d expect from a browser – so you can change between all the services by cycling them clockwise with CTRL + Tab, zooming by hitting CTRL + =, or any other browser-specific keyboard shortcut that you know of. Except for the one that changes URL of course.
Obviously Franz is a web wrapper too, but since they’re independent from any of the chat services, they can develop this sort of bringing-all-together type of software without getting into trouble with their higher-ups. Yet Franz manages to do a much better job than WhatsApp – the one owned by Facebook.
What amazes me about Franz, is the ability to add multiple accounts of the same service into one single window. I tried Facebook Messenger with two different accounts – mine and my mom’s, and it works perfectly as intended. You can rename or rearrange the order of the services you added to your liking too.
