Garmin Malaysia has unveiled the Varia RearVue 820, an advanced radar tail light designed to boost cyclist awareness and visibility on the road. Let’s take a look at it.
Powered by advanced radar technology, the new Garmin Varia RearVue 820 is the brand’s brightest radar tail light yet that also functions as an intelligent brake light by activating a unique flashing pattern when riders slow down or stop to alert motorists and fellow cyclists.
With up to 24 hours of battery life in day flash mode and up to 30 hours in radar-only mode, it sports a sleek design, a USB-C port for convenient charging, and a new seat post mount that fits securely and neatly on most road or gravel bikes.
When paired with a compatible Garmin Edge cycling computer, smartwatch, or the Varia smartphone app, the RearVue 820 delivers real-time visual and audible alerts for approaching vehicles.
Riders can also see threat level indicators based on vehicle speed and trajectory, along with new vehicle size detection that identifies approaching traffic as small, medium, or large. Its wider field of view allows detection across multiple lanes, with vehicles tracked from over 170m away.
Visibility is further enhanced by a powerful tail light that’s visible from more than 2km away and offers multiple lighting modes, including day flash, night flash, solid, and peloton mode. Cyclists can also customize light patterns, brightness, and flash duration through the Varia app.
Pricing and Availability
The new Garmin Varia RearVue 820 will arrive in the Malaysian market in March 2026 at a price of RM1,249.
