Google has officially announced that merchants around the world can now list items for sale through Google Shopping free of charge.
In an effort to combat the economic downscale brought by COVID-19, Google announced this change back in April to the United States region to see how much impact can be brought to sellers, buyers, and most importantly, advertisers.
Since it is actually going very well, Google decided to be a good samaritan and help to stimulate the economy while transforming it into the digital world by applying this Google Shopping listing for free globally. Retailers that are running these free listings and ads got an average of twice as many views and 50% more visits.
The change will be in effect starting from mid-October and retailers may start to upload their listings to Google Shopping and start bumping their sales to help recoup previous losses. Paid ads will still be inserted within search results and ad slots with focused priority so that advertisers are still getting the exposure rate they have paid for.
By combining with the growing scene of e-commerce in South East Asia sped up by the pandemic, the timing is impeccable. According to their in-house analytics, 53% of online shoppers prefer online shopping more frequently while 40% of those who are new to online shopping will stay for more. Moreover, 1/3 have bought from a brand that is completely new to them.
If you are new to this and decided to take a chance on Google’s e-commerce platform, they are offering skills training through Grow with Google and sharing research and insights to further support and inform future business decisions. For managing digital storefronts, there is a playbook and webinar series about that. Partners such as Shopify, Haravan, Shopline, LnwShop are also here to help merchants managing products and inventories.
With the listing being free going forward, maybe it is time to try your hands with the power of Google to help expand your business.
