Screenshot (43)We all are living in a 3-dimensional space, that is if we exclude time as the fourth dimension. All electronic devices in the world is made based on only two dimensions, that is the height and width. Google however, wants to integrate the third dimension into our electronics.

Take a look Google’s Advanced Technology and Projects (ATAP) division showing off Project Tango.

To integrate the third dimension, there are a lot of changes that are necessary for this. Firstly, another camera is needed to pinpoint the depth of the objects. Secondly, a proper software is needed to utilize the altimeter and also the gyrometer to track the vector of the device’s movement. Thirdly is of course a software that uses a standard to save and share these space and motion tracked.

So what’s the use of these tracking? Let’s just admit one thing – finding direction in a multi-storey building is extremely difficult. Not only sharing your current location doesn’t tell your altitude, yet it’s not really accurate at all since it uses triangulation alone.

This new technology will surely tell directions and locations much more clearly with the 3D mapping capabilities. Who knows, this technology might even reinvent the current dying state of 3DTVs with a whole new depth of view. Maybe this can even reinvent the entire Google Street View with a whole new depth.
