Usually, drivers would have to leave their Grab app to contact their passenger.

According to Grab themselves, there’s an epidemic of unnecessary text messages. Drivers have sent 85,000 of them, and passengers have sent another 45,000 more. With GrabChat, all of these texting can be done within the app itself, yet it does not require the users to leave the Grab app at all. Everything is done within the app itself! Another plus point right here is for the tourists – they don’t have to pay for stupidly expensive international roaming charges!

“This new feature is the outcome of us listening and understanding the needs and wants of our customers. It is a simple, fast, convenient and most importantly a safer instant messaging platform to ease communications between passengers and drivers without the worry of communication breakdowns, international roaming call charges and being distracted while driving. Grab was birthed in Malaysia to address the need of providing safe transport option for all Malaysians while improving the welfare of our drivers, therefore we are proud to take the lead with the launch of GrabChat in the region,” said Jaygan Fu, Country Head of Grab Malaysia.

Better yet – GrabChat has included 4 commonly used simple sentences as templates. These phrases are included to minimize texting while driving, and to minimize accidents while ensuring driver’s safety.

GrabChat will improved through feedback and usage from its users, and will be expanding to GrabHich later.
