In the dense world today, who wouldn’t want to stand out from the crowd? Everyone is seeking to have a unique identity of their own, much like how hipsters are these days are trying to separate themselves from practically everything.
As our smartphones became an essential for our daily lives, we tend to customize it with some funky designs. Some of us customize it for the sake of just customizing, some are to add functionality, some are added for the colours, whereas some are plainly to protect the phone. Nokia however made a video showing you guys how to make a phone case out of old CDs. Yes, those CD-Rs that we still use these days to burn our mixtapes or to play shuriken with it. Also, they used the Nokia 1520 for this video.
The first thing that came into my mind after watching this was OMG, especially during the molding process. CDs have a somewhat undetermined melting point, since different qualities of CDs have different melting points, though all are in favour to agree that the melting point of CDs are waaaaaay above 100ºC. Wow, Nokia phones can withstand a temperature up to more than a 100ºC? That’s quite impressive!
With the “molding” done, the excess is cut and have the edges trimmed, holes cut and the protection that was for the molding process removed. Apparently the Nokia smartphone still works!
There are few things to note in this video though.
1. The entire video was shot with a Lumia 1020
2. The case made out of CDs is ridiculously shiny and potentially harmful since there are many sharp edges
3. Nokia phones can withstand high temperature, just like how it can withstand deadly drops.
I’m joking, this is just a promotional video made by Nokia for their Lumia smartphone, which is actually quite brilliant and creative, rather than having the cheesy, douchebag Galaxy Gear advertisement which was boring and monotonous in the first place.
