Since the announcement of the Huawei P9, the collaboration I dub as “Huawei & Leica” was rather controversial at first. When the news starts to settle down and  more people reviewed the device, it’s actually a really good camera — I mean smartphone.

Now, Huawei is taking the collaboration even further – as both Huawei and Leica Camera AG join together to for research and innovation in a center name it as ‘Max Berek Innovation Lab’.

This new lab is located at Leica’s global HQ at Wetzlar, Germany, as they now focus on developing better optical systems and software-based technologies with better image quality in mind. Other than that, this lab also focuses on computational imaging, augmented reality (AR), and virtual reality (VR).

What can we see more from this collaboration? I suppose there’re going to be more camera-centric smartphones like the Huawei P9 obviously and potentially Kirin-powered Leica cameras?
