Introducing, the new Huawei P40 series of smartphones. Within this series, we have a total of 3 smartphones – the Huawei P40, the Huawei P40 Pro, and the Huawei P40 Pro Plus. A very original naming scheme, right?
All of the three phones within the Huawei P40 series looks dated, and it’s just copying Samsung’s latest Galaxy S20 design. Let’s take a look at each of these phones. They’re all very similar to each other, but they do have some differences.
Just a quick note, the rendered images of the phone are not representative of the phone itself. That’s why we’re using pics from The Verge instead.
All I have to say is – the new P40 series of smartphones has unnecessarily big cutouts for the selfie camera. It’s very distracting.
Huawei P40
Starting off with the specs:
- 6.1-inch OLED display with 2340×1080 pixels in resolution
- 60Hz refresh rate
- HiSilicon Kirin 990 chipset
- 8GB RAM
- 128GB of internal story
- Expandable via NM card
- Triple rear-facing cameras
- Main: 50MP f/1.9 with PDAF
- Telephoto: 8MP f/2.4 with PDAF and OIS; 3x optical zoom
- Ultra-wide: 16MP
- 32MP f/2.2 selfie camera
- 3,800mAh battery
- Android 10 with EMUI 10
- Huawei Mobile Services
I don’t really mind the phone itself, though it just looks a little uninspired at this point. It’s a rather typical phone in terms of specs and overall design. Its capabilities are still too early to judge as there are no reviews of it yet.
P40 Pro
It’s more of a step-up compared to the Pro:
- 6.58-inch OLED display with 2640×1200 pixels in resolution
- 90Hz refresh rate
- HiSilicon Kirin 990 chipset
- 8GB RAM
- 256GB of internal story
- Expandable via NM card
- Triple rear-facing cameras
- Main: 50MP f/1.9 with PDAF
- Telephoto: 12MP f/3.4 with PDAF and OIS; 5x optical zoom
- Ultra-wide: 40MP
- 3D TOF sensor
- 32MP f/2.2 selfie camera
- 4,200mAh battery
- Android 10 with EMUI 10
- Huawei Mobile Services
There are a couple of big differences compared to the smaller P40 – especially the 90Hz refresh rate and the camera system. Other than that, it’s pretty much the same.
Huawei P40 Pro Plus
This is pretty much yet another step-up from the P40 Pro. It’s almost the same but comes with yet another camera.
- 6.58-inch OLED display with 2640×1200 pixels in resolution
- 90Hz refresh rate
- HiSilicon Kirin 990 chipset
- 8GB RAM
- 512GB of internal story
- Expandable via NM card
- Quadruple rear-facing cameras
- Main: 50MP f/1.9 with PDAF; OIS
- Telephoto: 8MP f/4.4 with PDAF and OIS; 10x optical zoom
- Telephoto: 8MP f/2.4 with PDAF and OIS; 3x optical zoom
- Ultra-wide: 40MP
- 3D TOF sensor
- 32MP f/2.2 selfie camera
- 4,200mAh battery
- Android 10 with EMUI 10
- Huawei Mobile Services
