The winner of 2021 in the sector of foldable smart devices is none other than Samsung with its Galaxy Z Fold3 and Flip3 duo. But in preparation for next year, HUAWEI has announced their Flip3 counterpart in the form of the P50 Pocket. Meanwhile, the outer cover screen does what the Flip3 does too – quick access to applications and notifications without the need to unfold.
The device also continues the tradition of getting the best treatment in the camera department as setup consists of a 40MP True Chroma lens, 13MP Ultra-Wide, 32MP Ultra-Spectrum, 10-channel Multi-Spectrum Sensor, and Ultra Spectrum Illuminator which reportedly gives it superior performance in low light shots and color accuracy in the DCI-P3 color gamut, partly thanks to the immense digital processing algorithm as well.
As for the computing parts, it will be carrying the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC which can be the potential factor to draw in more sales as Kirin chips are traditionally slightly weaker in the GPU part against Qualcomm’s offerings so that gamers that enjoy superior photography experience and the foldable technology will definitely look forward to this. Powering the device is a brick of digital juice at 4,000mAh which is a little bit less than expected but it is still justifiable, especially in a form factor of this size.
Aside from the clean White color, the P50 Pocket also comes in a luxury Premium Gold edition for the really classy ladies and gentlemen.
Reference Price
As of now, the HUAWEI P50 Pocket is only announced for the China market and when converted to Ringgit Malaysia, it is around RM5929. Personally for that price that runs a year-old SoC that has been bashed for overheating easily, the P50 Pocket is going to be controversial and a topic among the smartphone market for quite some time upon global release.
