My classmate, SonOfTerra92, has been showing off his YouTube channel [channel here] in class where he make video blogs about science and technology. He is mostly interested in astronomy as he once said in class. A few weeks ago, he asked if I could help him out on a video project; the most significant event in human existence that is the event of Messier 82 supernova, 12 million light-years away.
Messier 82 is the closest supernova ever witnessed in the last 150 years and it was first discovered by the students and staff of University of College London. What makes this supernova even so interesting is that it is visible easily with amateur telescopes given there’s minimal light pollution and good weather.
As for the visibility of the supernova in our location, we tried to locate the supernova but it is not visible mostly due to light position emitted by the nearby highway. We located the Messier 82 by looking at the bowl of the Big Dipper. We further confirmed and pinpointed the exact location by using Google Sky.
