Insta360 has officially showed of the new flagship 8K 360 camera, the X6, that brings unprecedented recording quality and performance within a compact unit that can be used in travel, adventure, and everyday shooting.
The new release runs a custom dual Sony 1/1.1-inch square sensors delivering full 1-inch equivalent 360 imaging as well as 33% more sensor area and roughly 4X the light intake per frame compared to the previous X5. Behind the sensors sits a triple AI chip setup, an 8-core 3.3GHz flagship processor paired with 2 dedicated imaging chips, delivering 5X more computing power while using 35% less power. As a result, low light, harsh backlighting, and high-contrast scenes are easier to take.
Speaking of low light, the new low-light mode utilizes ambient light sensors to reduce flicker, while AdaptiveTone 2.0 meters each lens independently and captures two exposures per frame for wider dynamic range. X6 is also the first 360 camera with native in-camera Dolby Vision, analyzing dynamic metadata frame by frame, paired with 10-bit color and over 1.07 billion recordable colors.
The 3-in-1 design allows the X6 to switch between a full 360 camera, a subject-tracking gimbal camera, and a single-lens action cam with a tap. In 360 mode, it records at native 8K50FPS, and with InstaFrame 2.0, it runs in 4K mode and enables automatic subject tracking for people, pets, or objects.
If needed, the new Foldable Selfie Stick Remote Kit adds joystick-controlled gimbal-style shooting without needing a separate gimbal, while the POV Head Tracker follows the user’s eyeline instead. In single-lens mode, it functions as a traditional action cam shooting up to 5K60FPS, wide-angle up to 170 degrees, or 4K120FPS for slow motion.
On the back, the 2.32-inch OLED screen with 1200 nits of peak brightness, always-on display and glove-friendly touch controls make sure the users can always see and interact with the camera, while the 2,600mAh battery is capable of recording 140 minutes of 8K30fps video, fast-charging to 80% in 24 minutes and remaining reliable down to -20°C. As for lens replacement, it is said to 5X more scratch-resistant and 60% cheaper to replace than before.
Audio comes from a four-mic omnidirectional windproof array, plus a separate Hidden Engine Mic tuned for motorcycle riders to filter wind and isolate engine sound, with Intelligent Audio Mode adjusting automatically to the environment and support for connecting 2x Insta360 Mic Air or Mic Pro transmitters simultaneously. FlowState stabilization and 360 Horizon Lock keep footage smooth, while connectivity includes NFC pairing, Wi-Fi 6.0 for 100MB/s wireless transfer, USB 3.0 at 450MB/s wired, and fast Bluetooth pairing.
For underwater usage, the X6 is waterproof to 20m on its own and 60m with the dive case, and includes 47GB of usable built-in storage. It is also optimized for post-production, as the X6 shoots in I-Log to preserve dynamic range, with grading available from 10-bit footage in the free Insta360 Studio app.
The PanoMind AI Director function can also help in editing, as it can run in the background locally while the camera is charging, while Auto Edit 2.0 offers a more manual one-tap editing option for shaping specific clips.
The X6 supports more than 100 accessories through the same magnetic mounting system used on X5, X4 Air, and the Ace series, including a Power Selfie Stick for extended runtime, a Fast Charge Case with dual battery and SD slots, a dedicated motorcycle set with speed dashboard overlay and automatic license plate blurring, cycling stat overlays for Garmin and Apple Watch, an upgraded Invisible Dive Case Pro rated to 60m, and car mounting options including an electric suction cup mount.
Insta360+ Cloud Service adds up to 2TB of opt-in backup storage that runs while the camera charges, with sharing links opening into full 360 views. Files uploaded to the cloud can also feed into Moments Pro, a new cloud-side editing tool built with Google Gemini that generates videos based on a chosen subject, mood, style, and timeframe.
