I think we really should have a real talk regarding the iPhone 7 audio jack. I think at this time, many of us already know that’s going down with the brand new Apple iPhone 7, and we’ve expecting it many months ago, the brand new iPhone 7 does not have an audio jack at all.

First of all, this is absolutely ridiculous! You’ll need a freaking Lightning-to-3.5mm audio jack converter if you ever want to use your 3.5mm audio devices ever again. It seems like Apple is forcing its users to have less ports in favour of freaking dongles and extensions. Does this sound familiar though? cough12-inch MacBookcough

In my opinion, that freaking sucks. I can never listen to my music using my analog speaker while charging!

However, there is a way, and there must be one. Here’s what I want to introduce to you guys – the Logitech Bluetooth Audio Adapter. I reviewed this quite a long time ago here. The main objective of this device is to convert speakers and home theater systems to be connected wirelessly via Bluetooth. It’s a noble idea in my opinion, and I love it.

Logitech Bluetooth Audio Adapter

In short, this piece of device is the workaround needed to solve the “iPhone 7 audio jack gone missing” problem. It literally just connects itself to a speaker – either with RCA audio cable or a 3.5mm audio cable. A big BUT though, as this piece of “3.5mm audio jack-to-Bluetooth converter” needs to be powered up for it to function. That means you’ll need a power plug.

In a way, with the removal of 3.5mm audio jack on the iPhone 7, it introduces some problems and fixes some other problems. Just because I want to charge the iPhone 7 while listening to music using a 3.5mm jack,  it’ll require another device that needs another power plug.

It’s just absolutely ridiculous!

Gone are the simpler times with just a freaking individual 3.5mm jack. I think it’s dumb to remove the audio jack entirely, and somehow Apple calls it “courage”. I’m calling it now – Apple will start selling a Y-split cable in the very near future, where a Lightning cable splits into another Lightning cable for charging, and another end for a 3.5mm audio jack. My speculation is that Apple is going to charge like $30 USD for it or something, yet people will continuously throw money at them.

It seems like one-port-to-rule-them-all is the path that Apple is taking. I have no idea why they’re doing this, but it really hurts the consumers more than anyone. Ironically though, consumers are happy to throw money at Apple for their lack of ports.

UPDATE: I knew this would happen!

Yesterday, I said that Apple release some sort of dongle for their Y-splitter. If anyone wishes to charge their iPhone and listen to music together, they’ll need the Y-splitter. I said it’s gonna cost like $30 yesterday, and Belkin came out with their official announcement of this dongle today – and it costs $40. Such insanity!

I expected such an accessory to exist for the iPhone 7 (and potentially upcoming devices) since Apple calls it “courage”. However, I’ve never seen anything so stupid before. This piece of dongle costs $40, and it splits from one single Lightning port to two Lightning ports. Oh – and by the way, you still need the Lightning-to-3.5mm audio jack to use any 3.5mm audio devices.

Obviously this bulky equipment right here does more than just a Y-splitter. It also has a 48 kHz 24-bit audio output too. Not bad. It’s just a little ridiculous since if I want to charge and listen musica via my 3.5mm audio jack together, I’ll need two freaking dongles. That’s just fantastic.

Oh – I haven’t add in the possibility of cables fraying or losing these dongles.
