Lenovo Consumer First Looks – 1The manufacturers have gone through tough times to make it thus far, and now they have risen to the top – number 1 manufacturer for PCs, and that’s no surprise for their top-notch quality products. Hey, I’m using one too – and they did not pay me to say that.

Last week, Lenovo brought range of new laptops and two AiOs into the Malaysian market, the most prominent PCs ones being the Flex 2, Y50, and Y70.

Starting off with a rather unconventional device is the Lenovo N300. It is an Android AiO that is powered by an Intel Celeron J1900 quad-core processor clocking at 2.0GHz, housed within a 19.5-inch LED HD+ 2-point multi-touch display with 1600×900 resolution, with all the graphical goodness powered by Intel HD Graphics. It has 500GB of storage and 2GB of RAM. The even more unconventional part is that this AiO actually has a built-in battery – a 4-cell battery that Lenovo claims that it ran have 3 hours of active usage.

Weighing at 4.6kg and costs RM1,349, it’s quite a niche market that Lenovo is aiming at. Especially since this machine runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, but upgradeable to Windows 7. Wait – what about Windows 8, 8.1, and the future?

DSC00550 copyUp next is the Lenovo C470 AiO that is powered by a dual-core Intel i3-4030U that is clocked at 1.9GHz. It has a 21.5-inch multi-touch display with the resolution of 1920×1080, powered by NVIDIA GeForce 820A graphics. It has a built-in 1TB hard disk, and upgradeable to 2TB. Selling at RM1,849, I think this can be a rather good piece of multi-functional furniture on my desk.

Both have a 15.6-inch 1080p resolution display driven by an NVIDIA GeForce GTX840M (some high powered stuff here!) and it will really ensure smooth and beautiful graphics for quite some time. Also, it comes with a 1TB hard disk to store whatever you need. Price is only RM2,399. I can already see students going crazy for this laptop.

Towards something more enticing, the Lenovo Flex 2 is here! Though it generally has much less power than of the Z50-70, the Flex 2 has a 10-point multi-touch display and offers two operating modes a la Yoga series, albeit a little downgraded. Take the Flex series as a compromise between the Z-series and the Yoga series – best of both worlds right here.

It is offered in 14-inch and 15-inch flavour, both with a very different set of hardware. The 14-inch version has either i3-4030U or i5-4210U and a 768p LED display powered by NVIDIA GeForce GT840 with 500GB worth of storage and costs RM1,699.

When it comes to the 15.6-inch version, it has an i7-4510U processor with a 1080p resolution IPS display but powered by the exact same graphics as its sibling, and has 500GB+8GB SSHD. Price starts at RM2,799 for this 15.6-inch version.

DSC00530 copyThen of course comes one machine that I am most happy about – the Lenovo Y50-70. I have no idea why Lenovo only brought in the 15.6-inch version though.

The specs on this beast is absolutely amazing. It comes with an Intel i7-4710HQ processor, has an option of 1TB HDD or 1TB SSHD, with its humongous 15.6-inch display powered by NVIDIA GeForce GTX860M. Best part of this laptop is that it comes with two different options for its display – you can get it in 1080p resolution, or in 4K resolution with IPS. Wow.

Prices start at RM3,999 though, it definitely is a little tough to fork out that much for a machine.

It’s a very thin and beautiful laptop since Lenovo has removed the optical disk drive entirely, yet they still retained the LAN port for all your low-ping LAN party needs. Another wow.

DSC00434 copyEven comes with a subwoofer. Lenovo claims that this is their new initiative in the JBL Audio 2.0.

This laptop makes me Lenovo Y580 feel old, even though it actually is very old already.
Wish I can have a Y50-70 for myself now.
