Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has delivered a sudden message to Malaysians – Waze is now banned for all public servants due to security concerns.

Malaysia bans Waze for all public servants, citing security concerns 1

Waze is the target here, citing that Waze Mobile Ltd. as the controller of user data and also operates under the Israeli regime, compromises all the users’ privacy. So, the Prime Minister is banning Waze for all public servants. Most citizens can still use Waze, though discouraged and the Prime Minister also recommends another app called TuJu.

There are already many people who tested the new TuJu app and there were lots of colourful words thrown around – so I’ll leave it to the expert to tell you why.

On another note, Waze was acquired by Google back in June 2013, but Waze still operates as an independent company. The company is still headquartered in Israel as of now, which is why the security concern was cited.
