Apparently Maxis has the highest Excellent Consistent Quality rating in Malaysia for mobile network service operators according to a survey by Tutela.
The scope of the survey covers the Southeast Asia region. Vietnam took the top spot with a rating of 71.4% while Malaysia clocks in at 64%. With over 14 million devices performing over 330 million speed tests to form this report, the sample size of this study has extensive coverage. It is also globally crowdsourced.
The Excellent Consistent Quality rating is a way of measuring how often a mobile operator provides its users with a connection that is suitable for a range of intensive use cases. Such cases include, but not limited to, 1080p video streaming, Full HD group video calls, and online gaming.
From the operator’s category, Maxis dominated across the board in Malaysia, winning overall 5 categories tested including the highest Excellent Consistent Quality in the country at 80.2% and highest median download throughput 16.0 Mbps.
Other notable findings include Telkomsel taking the 1st spot in Indonesia, a need for faster transition speed to larger 4G coverage in Vietnam, and Thailand giving out varied results depending on use cases and competing operators.
From other studies
Every research and surveys have their own set of regulations, scope, and standards on different performing categories, as well as the change in results over the course of different periods of time. Take Opensignal’s report from June 2019 to September 2019 for example. Stakes are high as Celcom barely won over Maxis by a category and the difference between this company is very close. Meanwhile, the period of research for Tetula’s report is from July 1st and December 31st, 2019. Counting in fluctuations over time, Maxis actually pulls ahead of Celcom by a considerable amount in certain sectors such as Consistent Quality Percentage.
From a user’s perspective, Maxis has better mobile internet speed but Celcom has better coverage nationwide.
