MG Motor Malaysia has JUST launched the locally assembled MGS5 EV, marking the next step in its localization efforts following the model’s first CKD line-off in Melaka earlier this March.
Developed on MG’s dedicated rear-wheel-drive EV platform, the MGS5 EV brings together everyday usability and engaging performance. The locally assembled CKD version improves upon the earlier CBU model with increased output of 151kW and 350Nm of torque, resulting in stronger acceleration and quicker response.
It also features ultra-fast DC charging of up to 150kW, enabling a 10–80% charge in around 26 minutes under optimal conditions. Its ultra-thin, horizontally mounted battery enhances cabin space, lowers the centre of gravity and improves stability, while delivering up to 446km (WLTP) of driving range.
Furthermore, the LUX Long Range variant adds premium touches such as leatherette seats, ventilated front seats, a power-adjustable passenger seat, and a hands-free tailgate.
The MGS5 EV highlights MG’s focus on safety with seven airbags and ADAS 2.5 features including Traffic Jam Assist and Intelligent Cruise Control, alongside five-star safety ratings from Euro NCAP and ASEAN NCAP.
Not only that, the EV is backed by an 8-year/180,000km battery pack warranty and an 8-year/160,000km motor control unit warranty for added peace of mind.
That said, bookings for the MGS5 EV are now open, with the LUX Long Range variant priced from RM116,900, alongside a limited-time launch promotion package worth up to RM9,000, subject to terms and conditions.
