Last week, Microsoft Malaysia organized a small media briefing and one of the sessions was about the 2024 Work Trend Index report initiated under Microsoft and LinkedIn.
The annual report recorded and tabulated a lot of things on a global scale but the main highlight here is the discovery of the trend of AI being used in work-related tasks. Specifically, Malaysians are really leading the charts when it comes to the adoption rate.
Extracted from the responses of 31,000 people across 31 countries alongside LinkedIn trends, Microsoft 365 signals, and research with Fortune 500 customers.
So here are some quick key insights about this topic:
- Superior adoption rate – 84% of Malaysian knowledge workers use AI at work (vs. 75% globally)
- Reason for adopting AI – AI saves time, boosts creativity, and helps focus on important work
- Concerns coming from leaderships – 66% of Malaysian leaders worry about the lack of AI implementation vision
- Rising BYOAI trend – 83% of Malaysian AI users bring their own AI tools to work
- Growing power users of AI – 85% begin their day with something involving AI while 82% use it for planning their day
- Lack of skills and training – Despite a high user base, a portion of power users lack tailored training to harness the best potential
- The shift in hiring preferences – 65% of Malaysian leaders prefer workers who are less experienced but “AI fluent” than those who are more experienced but not “AI fluent”
- Global LinkedIn Trends – 142x increase in people who added “AI Skills” into their profile; Job posts mentioning AI grew by 17%
Prominent names and organizations like Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB) and Johor Corporation (JCorp) are investing heavily in adding Microsoft Copilot and other AI tools to attain cultural and business transformation.
