To be honest, external hard disks are fragile They have delicate little moving parts in them, and the main purpose of an eHDD is portability. That means these delicate little hard disks are going to bump into random stuff are random angles, and in random amounts of force. We’ve seen rugged external hard disks before, but the Apacer AC730 is certainly the most complete when it comes to military-grade ruggedness.

First off, the Apacer AC730 is encased in a casted aluminium alloy with a matte finish to prevent slippage from sweaty and clumsy hands. Secondly, it has an advanced level of crush protection, as Apacer claims that it can resist up to 1,500kg of weight(!), and it remains undamaged when ran over by a military armored fighting vehicle.

Thirdly, it is compliant to the MIL-STD-810G method 516.6 Procedure IV (Transit Drop Test), meaning its anti-impact ability is sufficient for accidental drops, jars and knocks, for up to 1.2 meter in height. How does the Apacer AC730 do it? By having a suspension layer built between the core and its aluminium case!

Fourthly and certainly the most fantastic feature is that the Apacer AC730 is IP68-compliant! That means it’s dustproof and waterproof. You can even submerge it under fresh water for up 60 minutes and up to 1 meter. With its fully sealed interior, you can wash off any dust or dirt off the Apacer AC730 whenever you wish.

The Apacer AC730 is available in 1TB and 2TB and uses the USB 3.1 Gen 1 interface, which can transfer data at maximum speed of 5Gb/s.
