The 2nd-hand smartphone market and the associated recycling ecosystem is an interesting place as after this year’s Chinese New Year, one particular model is flaring up.

Motorola Razr 5G

Following on Liberty Times Net‘s report, the one topping the “Top 10 Value Appreciation Ranking for Feb 2025” chart is the Motorola Razr 5G with 8GB+256GB config as the “supposedly” standard recycling price at just NTD110 has shaped into a new time high of NTD3,340 – a 30x uplift.

The Razr 5G was first launched in Taiwan near the end of 2020, paying homage to the original Razr V3 which is the real “fashion item” for Gen X and Millennials during the hike of the flip phone era.

According to Jiesheng Telecom, the sudden price increase of the Motorola Razr 5G is not reflective of the overall market trend. Instead, specific models and brands—often those with collectible value or unique demand—are seeing price hikes as recyclers compete to acquire them. Another notable device on the list is the ASUS ROG Phone 6D Ultimate (16GB/512GB), which saw its buy-back price rise from NTD4,590 to NTD6,720.

Other than that, Apple’s iPhone lineup remains as popular as expected with the iPhone 16 Pro Max being the best performer at 8% across the 256GB/512/GB/1TB segment, with its value being sustained by the tighter supply of high capacity models.
