There are quite a number of reasons why routers are important – but nowadays, it’s all about WiFi. Probably you’re gonna have about at least 2 devices per person at home. Personally for me, I have typically about 12 devices connected at once on WiFi – that’s excluding my little LAN network in my room that’s connected through WDS.

So here’s the deal – my WiFi is really unreliable and slow. Whenever I’m at the kitchen, good luck getting WiFi signal. 5GHz is impossible to reach that area, and that’s only about 100 meters away from the router, though through a lot of concrete walls.

Enter the new ASUS routers – specifically the new RT-AC88U and the RT-AC5300. These two routers are special in specific.

ASUS RT-AC88U

First of all, look at the thing. It looks like an inverted half-crab as antennas! There’s a reason for it too – it has dual-band AC3100 class 4×4 router, and powered by Broadcom’s NitroQAM, it can reach up to 3167Mbit/s in total! To break it down, it’s 2167Mbit/s on 5GHz band and the remaining 1000Mbit/s is on the 2.4GHz! That’s already insane!

ASUS even fine-tuned the beamforming technology through their AiRadar algorithm and made use of their 4 external antennas for the one-of-a-kind multi-device performance and stability.

Also, let’s not forget that the RT-AC88U comes with WTFast GPN built into the router itself. Fantastic. Also, I’m really happy that ASUS slapped in a total of 8 Gigabit LAN ports. Yes, eight of them.

Let’s not forget – there’s a USB3.0 port hidden at the front too, inside the flap on the left side.

ASUS RT-AC5300

Enter the inverted octopus. I’m sorry but the way I looked at it at first, it looked like an octopus somehow. Again, there’s a reason for it. It uses tri-band design with the Broadcom NitroQAM again, but now with combined speeds up to 5334Mbit/s.

To brain this number, there’s something you have to know – the RT-AC5300 has two independent 5GHz frequency bands and a single 2.4GHz frequency band – that means a total of 3 SSIDs broadcasting from one router, two 5GHz, and a single 2.4GHz.

Yes, that’s a screenshot from my phone during their launch event too. Insane speeds? Yes, and I’m totally jealous!

Also, WTFast is included for free, built right into the router itself!
