As NVIDIA makes the official announcement that notebook versions of the GeForce RTX20-series of GPUs in CES2019, many brands were already prepared for it. We already saw the entire lineup of ASUS ROG laptops refreshed just for the RTX20-series of GPUs.
There are a total of 40+ new laptop models in more than 100 configurations will be available later in this month. From what we were told, the official availability date for RTX-powered gaming laptops will be available on the 15th of January 2019. That’s only a week away!
Laptops are the fastest growing gaming platform — and just getting started. The world’s top OEMs are using Turing to bring next-generation console performance to thin, sleek laptops that gamers can take anywhere. Hundreds of millions of people worldwide — an entire generation — are growing up gaming. I can’t wait for them to experience this new wave of laptops.
– Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA
Currently, the GPUs available for laptops ranges from the RTX 2060 all the way up to RTX 2080.
RTX Meets Max-Q
The new Turing-based GPUs will still feature NVIDIA Optimus technology, whereby it will switch between the NVIDIA GPU and the integrated GPU so that you can enjoy the longest battery life on your laptop. Optimus switches to the integrated GPU to prolong the battery life, then switches back to the NVIDIA GPU when the task demands it. All of this happens seamlessly.
Max-Q design GPUs make a return once again as we have already seen the new Zephyrus S (GX531GX) was refreshed with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Max-Q design. It still delivers on both real-time ray-tracing and DLSS since the RTX 2080 Max-Q is still equipped with RT and Tensor cores.
NVIDIA even claims that you can play the latest ray-traced games like Battlefield V at 60FPS on your laptop.
Laptops with the latest GeForce RTX GPUs also are equipped with:
- WhisperMode — enables plugged-in laptops with GeForce Experience to run much quieter while gaming by pacing frame rates while also configuring graphics settings for optimal power efficiency.
- NVIDIA Battery Boost — enables laptops with GeForce Experience to have 2x more battery life.
- NVIDIA G-SYNC — enables refresh rates of up to 144 Hz for smooth, tear-free gameplay. (Requires compatible display)
