NVIDIA has just officially launched the brand new GeForce GTX 1660 Ti, which actually priced very competitively for what it offers. Based on the Turing architecture, the GeFroce GTX 1660 Ti has a chip that is named TU116-400 that is build from the ground up that focuses on performance, power efficiency, and most importantly – price.
The GTX 1050 Ti was a great and affordable card for esports titles at that time since those titles do not demand that much performance and yet is able to game at high frame rates. Nowadays, we have more competitive games like PUBG and Apex Legends which are significantly more demanding then games like CSGO and Dota 2.
The GTX 1660 Ti is created to be its successor while upholding that throne with these specs:
| Graphics Processing Clusters | 3 |
| Texture Processing Clusters | 12 |
| CUDA Cores (single precision) | 1536 |
| Tensor Cores | N/A |
| RT Cores | N/A |
| Texture Units | 96 |
| ROP Units | 48 |
| Base Clock | 1500MHz |
| Boost Clock | 1770MHz |
| Memory Clock | 6000MHz |
| Memory Data Rate | 12Gbps |
| L2 Cache Size | 1536 K |
| Total Video Memory | 6144 GDDR6 |
| Memory Interface | 192-bit |
| Total Memory Bandwidth | 288.1 GB/s |
| Texture Rate (Bilinear) | 169.9 GigaTexels/second |
| Fabrication Process | 12nm FFN |
| Transistor Count | 6.6 Billion |
| Connectors | 1x DisplayPort 1x Dual-Link DVI 1x HDMI |
| Form Factor | Dual Slot |
| Power Connectors | One 8-pin |
| Recommended Power Supply | 400 Watts |
| Thermal Design Power (TDP) | 120W |
| Thermal Threshold | 95°C |
From the specs sheet above, we know that the new GeForce GTX 1660 Ti up above here have quite a few interesting things to be pointed out.
Firstly, we have the confirmation that the GTX 1660 Ti will only have 6GB VRAM and there are no other configurations available like the GTX 1060.
Secondly, there are no RT or Tensor cores on the TU116 GPU, which means there will be no real-time ray-tracing or DLSS. However, it was pointed out to us that the the GTX 1660 Ti also supports variable rate shading, including both content adaptive shading and motion adaptive shading which are exclusively only available for Turing architecture GPUs. We’ve also seen the amount of performance increase by having variable rate shading enabled in the video below.
Virtual Link is also not present the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti, but it was mentioned that the AIB partners can add their own if they choose to do so.
Currently, NVIDIA is touting 1.5x IPC and 1.4x power efficiency when compared to the GTX 1060 6GB, and even more improvements when adaptive shading is enabled in supported titles like Wolfenstein II. The GTX 1660 Ti also has concurrent float and integers that run in parallel, thus improving performance and scores 1.5x higher performance than the GTX 1060 6GB at Shadow of the Tomb Raider.
The GeForce GTX 1660 Ti will be available starting at the price of just USD $279 – which is about ~RM1,139.58. This is a very competitive price as it is around the GTX 1060 6GB’s price when it was first launched.
Our partner at Tech Critter has already published the review of the Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1660 Ti Gaming OC 6G too. We have to say, the performance is looking pretty stellar for NVIDIA’s budget gaming card.
