NVIDIA has officially announced its new RTX 2080 SUPER and RTX 2070 SUPER GPUs for the upcoming GeForce laptop lineup from all its partners.
While it’s pretty obvious that gamers and creators can now choose for an even powerful laptop powered by these ‘Supercharged’ GPUs, NVIDIA also introduced a bunch of new features for the upcoming GeForce laptops to take better advantage of the RTX SUPER GPUs.
New Max-Q Technology
One of the new features that caught my attention is the Max-Q technologies which NVIDIA claims to be able to offer twice the efficiency of what the previous generation Max-Q is capable of.
According to NVIDIA, the new Max-Q technology is made up of a few different features such as DLSS, Advanced Optimus and Dynamic Boost. To put it simpler, these features are working closely related to one and another in order to deliver the optimal performance, power efficiency, and longer battery life.
By having the total shared thermals set at 115W (CPU:35W, GPU:80W), the system will automatically regulate the performance and shift the load from CPU to GPU depending on the type of load through Max-Q Dynamic Boost. This enables the system to perform better with the same amount of power and we have confirmed with NVIDIA that the feature will be available on both AMD and Intel platform.
As mentioned earlier, NVIDIA also introduced the upgraded version of both the NVIDIA Optimus and DLSS, which plays an important role in extending the battery life for longer usage.
If you’re familiar with the previous Optimus, Advanced Optimus works almost the same but with an improved design to better support G-SYNC and 4K resolution up to 120Hz. NVIDIA did mention about being able to adjust it manually or let it run automatically by default, but until then, we can only know how it actually works by experiencing it ourselves as soon as we managed to get our hands on one.
DLSS was initially introduced as a feature that enables better performance and image quality for RTX enabled AAA titles, it’s actually a surprise for us to learn that it actually helps in improving the battery life when it’s enabled.
Also – originally, a game needs to be sent over to NVIDIA so that it can create an AI model for that one particular game. DLSS 2.0 revamps that entirely, so there’s only one AI model for all games. That’s a huge leap!
The recently announced DLSS 2.0 now comes with a total of 3 modes (Performance, Balanced, and Quality). According to the demo screenshot shown by NVIDIA during the press briefing, enabling DLSS on performance mode delivers will improve the battery life by up to 20% while the game still yields similar or perhaps better image quality than its DLSS off state.
Introducing 10 New RTX Studio Systems
Apart from the new Max-Q technologies, NVIDIA also announced 10 new upcoming RTX Studio laptops powered by the latest RTX SUPER GPUs and Intel 10th Gen CPUs.
Based on the official list, we can see 2 new models from each of the partners – ACER, GIGABYTE, MSI, and RAZER:
| GIGABYTE | Aero 15 OLED |
| Aero 17 HDR | |
| ACER | ConceptD 7 Ezel |
| ConceptD Ezel Pro | |
| MSI | Creator 15 WS66 |
| Creator 17 WS76 | |
| RAZER | Blade 15 – Base, RTX Studio |
| Blade 15 – Advanced, RTX Studio |
With an ongoing list of over 45+ RTX accelerated Apps, creators can take advantage of the RTX GPU which yields up to 10 times faster video rendering and 13 times faster 3D rendering than a MacBook Pro 16, which uses only its CPU to do all the rendering work.
