NVIDIA had a showcase and seminar talking about the new RTX 50-series of GPUs, while expanding and focusing the topic on the new RTX 50-series laptop GPUs. As a quick recap, RTX 50-series GPUs run on the new Blackwell architecture and that enables the usage of DLSS 4.0, RTX Neural Materials, RTX Skin, multi-frame generation, and many more.
Most importantly is how NVIDIA is upping the experience by optimizing how Max-Q behaves in the RTX 50-series Laptop GPUs, optimizing both power efficiency and performance.

One of the most notable milestones this generation is by having more control in terms of power gating. The Blackwell GPU die can now be controlled in three separate segments, allowing more granular control on how the power is drawn and distributed into the GPU die.

The power gating also allows even lower power consumption while the GPU is in sleep mode. While there are no numbers shown, NVIDIA claims that it can achieve up to 50% of power savings.

Surprisingly though, NVIDIA is stepping into the realms of gaming on battery too. The new BatteryBoost has scene awareness and can save battery by doing some trickery to save some battery. This is probably by just holding the frame of low action scenes longer, so that the GPU doesn’t have to churn out 144fps constantly.

NVIDIA also shared an in-house graph that shows the performance increase for its laptop GPUs, ranging from the RTX 30-series all the way to the new RTX 50-series. The gap is indeed huge. Users who are still stuck on the RTX 20-series or GTX 10-series laptop GPUs will be getting a really big performance leap when upgrading to this new RTX 50-series.

The RTX 50-series can also do RTX Neural Radiance Cache that enhances the performance of global ray-tracing, and RTX Skin that enhances the skin tones by stacking layers of materials with different properties to enable a realistic skin tone via ray-tracing.
There are over 100 games supporting DLSS 4.0 with more titles coming soon, and there are already some laptops in the market right now that is equipped with the RTX 50-series Laptop GPUs.

Of course, with such a powerful GPU in a laptop – we can run AI models on the go too. These are seriously capable machines that are made portable.
