The smartphone is an amazing product. It gets most of your things done on your computer within its little screen, and all that for only a fraction of the weight. Amazing little devices, I’d say. Though they rely relentlessly on battery, and manufacturers want to save costs at every aspect, but somehow I guess it affected the safety of batteries and its charging process too.

I found two cases in the course of six hours, and both were Samsung devices. This one was found earlier, where a Galaxy S III exploded in a woman’s pocket, burning her thigh. This story is from Gizmodo, where they even show the phone just literally exploded, causing the entire phone to be totally unrecoverable.

You can see how horribly shaped this phone is now. Being entirely burned, the explosion as you can see did happen from the battery itself, with left part of the chassis isolating the explosion, whereas the right side was fortunate at all with all the burned and crooked plastic.  Gizmodo actually has a picture of the burn on the victim’s thigh, which made me a queasy. Do check it out in the source below if you’re interested.

The second Samsung device that caught fire is the Galaxy S4. Really new phone, sure – but accidents still happen, though this time it’s in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This Galaxy S4 was claimed to have left charging overnight, and somehow the phone’s USB port overloaded, burning the entire USB port, the USB cable, and surprisingly, part of the S View flip cover too. The device is claimed to have an age younger than a month with its owner is now too in a dead state.

Samsung Gulf Electronics already confirmed an investigation on the Galaxy S4 and also agreed to deliver a one-for-one replacement alongside with some other things for compensation, but details are undisclosed.

It’s a sad day for Samsung Electronics. To point out a fact that this is the first ever Galaxy S4 to catch flames, but its predecessor, the Galaxy S III, had similar cases with its big brother too.
