After UMobile’s somehow surprising win in April, OpenSignal is back again with another round of its Mobile Experience Report released for September, and boy, the competition is quite fierce this time as all participating brands have at least won over 1 category out of the total 7 with Maxis and UMobile both taking over 2 and tieing this round for a double crown win.
We’ll start off with the fundamentals in the pure upload and download speed category as UMobile took the crown for best average speed in sending out data while Digi takes the top spot for having the top download speed in which as most people are consuming content more than they create, Digi users are reported to be the happiest users this time around.
But looking at 4G-related competitions in terms of availability and coverage, Unifi has provided the most uptime of its service while Celcom is still the best at providing the widest coverage across the country. But considering you need to factor in both aspects to represent a practical and sensible outcome, I personally think that Celcom’s ability to provide 4G to more audience in exchange for a little difference in uptime is a tradeoff that the company is willing to take. This is where Maxis managed to pull ahead of other brands in the Video and Games category while UMobile winning the Voice App section by a slight margin.
In the end, UMobile’s advantage comes from its triumph in delivering content quickly which in turn amplifies the experience of voice call because you know, both callers need to perform upload and download data at the same time, while Maxis is handling entertainment related content at the top level so that people spend more time having fun and less time lagging around.
