Qualcomm has announced they are joining MWC Barcelona 2025 and has prepared a lot of things to be showcased there, but they are allowing us to talk about some new stuff early on, so here we go.
Qualcomm Dragonwing
If one says Qualcomm, the other person would SURELY catch with ‘Snapdragon’ because it is just that well-known. But today we welcome the Qualcomm Dragonwing portfolio.
With Dragonwing, they are providing the tools to enhance growth and productivity of businesses and industrial settings in embedded IoT, networking, and cellular infrastructure with the power of cutting-edge AI that brings high performance and low power computing.
It is designed for speed, scalability, and reliability, and with Dragonwing products and solutions, companies can unlock smarter decision-making, improve operational efficiency, and accelerate time-to-market. Industries such as energy and utilities, retail, supply chain, manufacturing, and telecommunications can leverage Dragonwing to explore new opportunities, extend their competitive edge, and thrive in rapidly evolving markets.
As for design, it carries a stylized dragon icon in saturated blue (its more purple to me TBH) to contrast against the classic Snapdragon’s red for easy identification and proper categorization of its offerings.
Qualcomm x IBM
On the other hand, there is a new partnership from Qualcomm and “blue giant” IBM in an effort to advance enterprise-grade generative AI solutions across edge and cloud devices focusing on immediacy, privacy, reliability, personalization, and efficiency while reducing costs and energy consumption.
They are doing this by integrating IBM’s watsonx.governance into its generative AI platforms and support IBM’s Granite models via the Qualcomm AI Inference Suite and Qualcomm AI Hub.
Additionally, Granite Guardian 8B, and Granite 3.1 8B models will be run on Snapdragon 8 Elite reference design and Qualcomm Dragonwing AI On-Prem Appliance Solution, providing comprehensive generative AI solutions with built-in guardrails for monitoring and decision-making at the edge.
Furthermore, IBM’s Granite 3.1 language models have been optimized for the Qualcomm AI Hub, enabling developers and businesses to maximize AI capabilities at the edge. Qualcomm Technologies and IBM also plan to integrate governance and responsibility guardrails for on-device AI models via watsonx.governance.
The collaboration combines Qualcomm’s on-device inferencing, low-power efficiency, and privacy features with IBM’s watsonx performance to enhance AI security, reliability, and governance for businesses.
Additionally, the Qualcomm Cloud AI family of accelerators is now certified for Red Hat OpenShift, a leading hybrid cloud application platform powered by Kubernetes. This certification facilitates the scalable deployment of IBM’s AI software, including watsonx, using Qualcomm’s Cloud AI hardware solutions.
