Qualcomm has announced a new technical partnership with ADAS firm Wayve aimed at expanding automaker choice with a production-ready advanced driver-assistance and automated driving platform.
Wayve’s AI Driver, which is an end-to-end AI driving intelligence layer, will be integrated with Qualcomm’s high-performance Snapdragon Ride platform, which already includes automotive system-on-chips and tightly integrated Active Safety software.
The combined system will be able to give automakers a pre-integrated foundation capable of supporting regulatory and hands-off ADAS features today, while paving the way toward broader driving environments and eventually hands-off, eyes-off capabilities.
They are doing it through a pre-integrated platform intended to simplify deployment through consolidation of SoC, active safety systems, and Wayve’s AI Driver into a unified stack that offers loads of mission-critical features while still leaving room for customization and future upgrades.
The platform is also designed for global deployment and long-term vehicle lifecycle strategies, something that’s increasingly important as automakers look to reuse software and AI capabilities across different models and regions.
Deep down, Wayve’s AI Driver relies on a data-driven software stack trained on large volumes of real-world driving data, while Snapdragon Ride provides the automotive compute backbone with energy-efficient on-device AI processing within a safety-certified architecture that includes redundancy, real-time monitoring, and secure system isolation.
The unified architecture of Snapdragon Ride also enables Qualcomm to create different tiers of SoC to accommodate different price segments within the smart vehicle industry.
In terms of the potential expansion of this collaboration in the future, the two companies are planning to explore opportunities to leverage Qualcomm’s SoCs for future Level 4 robotaxi applications as well.
